.:Message from the Minister:.

Minister of MOC

In the current context of globalization and market economy, there is a critical need for evolving a developed and well-knit transport and communication system that should be able to integrate Bangladesh with the international transport and communication network. The transport and communication network in Bangladesh has evolved around road, rail, water transport and air transport system.

Ministry of Communication is responsible for formulating and implementing public policies and programmes concerning transport and communication system in roads and sub-sector.

Ministry of Communication plays a strategic role in mobility of people, goods and services-the essential prerequisite for social and economic development. All the people, irrespective of purpose and location, are the direct beneficiaries of transport policy, planning and services administered by the specialized agencies. It is therefore important that the people contribute to transport policy formulation, planning, cost efficient technologically sound infrastructure, administration and operation and also management of the services should have the right kind of attitude to gradually adopt, incorporate and practice E-governence in as much of area as possible in their respective field of planning, application, administration & services.

Bangladesh is a new player in the field of ICT. Though the Ministry of Communication was an early adopter, we are lagging behind in adopting the best practices in the field especially providing access to our most valued customers, the people of the country through our website and related technology tools. I am hopeful about the newly initiated website for the Division which will oversee the implementation of public policies and programmes concerning the surface transportation of people and goods through roads by the agencies concerned. The website also provides the means to be able to address public grievances effectively and will ultimately pave the way to embrace the E-governance regime of the coming days.

The newly initiated Right to Information Ordinance will provide the right impetus to our public officials to abandon the colonial mindset of secrecy and apathy towards public woes. I fervently hope that our public officers in this vital sector of communications will rise to the occasion to serve the peoples’ need as best they can through the efficient and judicious use of the new website and usher us into a new era of excellence in public service.

I thank all concerned and hope this initiative will set exemplary standards in embracing the ICT age
